Here’s a super-simple way to save some heating dollars: Don’t block your heaters. For example, if you have baseboard heaters but half of them are blocked by sofas and bookcases, you’re spending a lot of money heating those sofas and bookcases.
Pull furniture away from heaters so that the heat can get into the room and warm it up. Note, too, that baseboard heaters need to be sitting at least 3/4 of an inch above the floor so that air can enter them from below. If you have a thick rug blocking much of the bottom of a baseboard heater, you’re reducing its efficiency.
