Driving With a Commercial Driver License

Driving a commercial vehicle requires training and a commercial driving license, but many commercial transport companies allow new employees to start their driving hours as they complete their training.

Companies such as short- and long-distance delivery service providers, retailers and gasoline-shipping businesses employ commercial drivers.

The training involves classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Training can take about six months to complete and costs between $3,000 and $7,000, according to truck driving industry resource AllTrucking.com.
